40mm a Glorious Figure Scale

40mm is a great scale to paint not to mention looking wonderful in the display cabinet and on the war games table. Here are some of my 40mm efforts.

1775 American Militia (Front Rank 40mm)

Thasunke Witko ~ Crazy Horse (Sash and Saber 40mm)

Cetanwakuwa ~ Charging Hawk (Sash and Saber 40mm)

Ogaleesha ~ Red Shirt (Sash and Saber 40mm)

Blue Coyote (Sash and Saber 40mm) I would love it if someone out there can let me know the Lakota for 'Blue Coyote'. This figure is based on an old story of a Lakota warrior who painted himself and his horse blue decorated with yellow hailstones. When I read that I just had to paint him up.

Wild Bill Hicock from Knuckleduster Miniatures. I have added a sash after removing the cast on belt and holster - Bill often wore a sash and drew his pistols from this. Painting was done with a mixture of acrylic paints. Knuckleduster make a great range of 40mm Wild West as well as a very extensive range of 25mm Wild West.

Irish Brigade in 25mm

Here are some of my Irish Brigade lads painted for Fredericksburg. The figures are Foundry.

28mm Union Rank and File

Here is the business end of my union army, consisting predominantly of Redoubt figures, these boys lack the dash and glamour of zouaves and the cavalry, but make up for it in numbers and their ability to absorb rebel bullets!

54mm ACW

Here are more of my 54mm ACW miniatures. They are a mixture of makes: Black Cat and Britains. One of these days I will have enough of these - for both sides - to put on a game. If nothing else it will look magnificent!

Up and at them Tigers!

These are some photos of my 54mm and 25mm Wheat's 1st Special Battalion Louisiana Volunteers. The 54mm figures are Britains while the 25mm are a mixture of Sash and Saber and Redoubt with one Dxon and one Foundry conversion mixed in.

The 25mm lads. The Delta Rangers on the left (Redoubt), the Tiger Zouaves on the right (Sash and Saber). The Battalion colors carried at 1st Manassas in the center (Dixon, Foundry conversion and Sash and Saber).

Union Cavalry- Finished at last

Here are some pictures of my finished Union Cavalry by Fenlon Miniatures. The horses were a delight to paint, and are very well proportioned. The arms of the riders required assembly to the body, giving a range of lively poses. Some of the swords are a bit thin, so it will be interseting to see how tehy hold up in the heat of the game. Overall, Fenlon figures would have to be one of my favourite ranges and tend to mix well with other brands. The only downside is that they are so hard to find. I have just painted them in generic colours until I decide which division and brigade they should belong to.
