I have been home casting 28mm Romans using Prince August molds. Here are the first results - the first cohort finished and based for Hail Caesar. I have been very pleased with the PA figures. They are large 28mm, nicely robust and excellent for wargaming. The detail is good and they paint up well. I have used Black Tree characters such as the Centurion and Signifier as Black Tree figures are compatible in size to PA. I have painted these fellows as Legio XXX Uplia Victrix whose shields carried the Neptune's Trident with dolphins motif. I made the shield designs myself using MS Paint and Photoshop and then printing the design onto a sheet of water slide decal paper. I think that the finished result does the job very well and I will make a lot more use of this method in the future.
lovely mate, now all you need is eight hundred more to finish the legion ;)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing them on the table in March!

They look good (nice painting too). I'm sure you're doing it as a hobby, but is it cost-effective? Just curious. Dean
ReplyDeleteDean - The only cost to me is time. I use metal from the vast pile of unwanted figures I have. The molds cost only about $20 from which I can turn out as many figures as I want. As you say this is a hobby and I really enjoy the creative process as well as the sense of independence it gives. TZ
ReplyDeleteLovely paintjob!

The figures look great, Homemade decals??? You are a clever chap....Nice One!!
ReplyDeleteNice ! Great job on the homemade decals as well. I've thought about trying those, kind of wish PA had made them 40mm molds but I understand why they went with 28mm.
