Here are some photos of the defend the gap game we
played today. The game was 15 heroes defending a gap in the Great Wall against
100 Orcs. We played two games - each game had a time limit of 90 minutes. The
first game was a marginal Orc victory with them forcing the heroes back from the
gap with their line broken into small groups - not destroyed and still dangerous
but no longer in control of the gap. The second was really a draw in which the
heroes despite losing two dead and every man except two being wounded managed to
remain in something like a line and still contested the gap while the Orcs
gathered their strength for another surge forward. Another turn may well have
seen the Orcs break through. The Orcs were very unlucky in this second game as
they could have killed quite a few of the wounded heroes but just could never
roll the dice to do it when they had the chance. In both games the Orcs could try to climb the
wall but the odds were that they would either fail or break their necks falling
if they did so. About half a dozen Orcs managed to get up onto the walls, but
they were either dealt with or contained by the heroes. The rules we used are home grown and work well. It worked well and everyone who played said it was fun.

Fighting for the gap
The Heroes are being slowly pushed back from the Gap - the yellow tags indicate that the Hero is wounded - one more wound and the Hero is killed. Despite trying as hard as they could the Orc players could never manage to roll the right dice to kill the wounded heroes whenever they got the chance to do so.
