REGIMENTAL FIRE AND FURY GAME

Ian, Chris and I played a game of Regimental Fire and Fury this week. We used my 28mm ACW minis. The main reason for the game was to get my newly painted Yankee cavalry into action. The game was a meeting engagement between a Union force and Confederate force moving in from opposite corners of the table. The objective was to control a small hamlet at a crossroads further down the table. Chris played Union infantry and guns and Ian played Confederate. I played the Union cavalry.

One Brigade of Chris's Yankee infantry with guns following march onto the table. Yankee cavalry ride on in the background.

A Brigade of Ian's Johnny Rebs march on to the table - the race is on!

This lets you see what was going on. The two columns of opposing infantry are closing in on the hamlet cross roads. The cavalry is working its way around the flank with the intention of getting on the flank or behind the Reb line.

The two forces converge on the hamlet.
The cavalry make their way across the table with a degree of panache and decorum unknown to the grubby infantry.

Dismounted, the Cavalry form up behind a fence.

The battle develops into a contest between the infantry of both sides. In the distance the Rebs attempt to outflank the union left flank. In the foreground the Rebs refuse their own left flank because of the Union cavalry lurking out on that flank.

Over on the Union left flank the battle becomes close and personal. It could have gone either way on this part of the battlefield but lack of time available for the game meant that there no decisive outcome could be achieved.

GAME OF THRONES WILDLINGS

These are two Game of Thrones Wilding figures from Dark Sword Miniatures. I have just finished painting them and will use them as Vikings. Very nice, exceptionally well detailed and proportioned minis.

SPANISH CIVIL WAR WARGAME

Here are some photos from a Spanish Civil War game we played yesterday. The game invoved an infantry assault by Nationalists on a ridge defended by dug in Republicans. The aircraft played a minor role in the game but looked so cool I thought I should share the images with you. The aircraft models are die-cast metal and 1/72 scale. They were on stands but Photoshop magic removed those.

LATEST PLASTIC ACW CAVALRY - REBS

Here are the latest plastic ACW cavalrymen I have done. I had a couple of figures and horses left over after I had done the US cavalry and decided to do some Rebs. I cut the sabers away as they were seldom actually worn by cavalry, especially Reb cavalry, and used a couple of the Perry separate metal cast heads you can get. These are really nice heads, full of character. I then gave each man a full length rifled musket as I have a lot of these spare on Zulu sprues. Reb cavalry would grab hold of anything they could and often used long arms if that was all that they could get. They'd cut them down if they could, but these two guys haven't had time to do that yet. I am really pleased with the finished product. The final two photos are of the other plastic Reb cavalry I have done so far.

I just have to mention the outstanding service from Perry Miniatures. I put my order in on 11 September and had it in my hands here in Australia on 17 September. That is an amazing turnaround from the UK. Hats off to Perrys a great crowd to deal with!
