The portmontau should only be red on top but I got carried away and passed the 'looks cool' test. Dragoons are fine according to my sources. Yes I know about the horse colours but choose to paint for effect - which is the point of the exercise. You have to know the rules to break 'em! Hussars wearing trousers, not overalls. Bay is one of the most common coat colors in many horse breeds.

The black areas of a bay horse's hair coat are called "black points", and without them, a horse cannot be a bay. Black points may sometimes be covered by white markings, however such markings do not alter a horse's classification as "bay". Bay horses have dark skin, except under white markings, where the skin is pink. Bay is genetically a base color and the addition of other genes creates many additional coat colors. While the basic concepts behind bay coloring are fairly simple, the genes themselves and the mechanisms that cause shade variations within the bay family are quite complex and, at times, disputed.kendohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08401894573789760129noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8178186141030048598.post-14510925899537106702011-03-26T02:35:56.641-07:002011-03-26T02:35:56.641-07:00Yep that is what a bay horse is and has always b...Yep that is what a bay horse is and has always been.., red/brown body, black lower legs ,tail and mane..been that way since the cave paintings first recorded themkendohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08401894573789760129noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8178186141030048598.post-32061079480209300762011-03-26T01:30:14.249-07:002011-03-26T01:30:14.249-07:00Being totally colourblind, and having painted a gr...Being totally colourblind, and having painted a green horse, believing it was grey, these details keep me awake at night! Horse markings are not my strong point. Is that true about the horses with black tails markings? Is this one a product of modern breeding?
http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/Image:Trakhener_-_Dressur_Zweites_2.jpgMarcbhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16216492276759065750noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8178186141030048598.post-25116067363767823352011-03-25T22:32:31.263-07:002011-03-25T22:32:31.263-07:00I have to say a few things disturb me with the pa...I have to say a few things disturb me with the painting here..the sky blue trumpeter is one.. there aren't any sky blue facing cuirassiers..and the red portmanteau, they should be blue, as matching the rest of the saddle cloth bizzo,, and the cloak should be an off white with a wide facing/lining colour stripe lengthwise down the middle, , same with the dragoons..and as the portmanteau is part of the saddlery the straps are black as are the carbine buckets.. and the boot stockings should be white..and horses with black tails and manes always have black lower legs..
and to be a total pest Austrian huzzars' overalls were grey..kendohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08401894573789760129noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8178186141030048598.post-26727770315452234962011-03-24T14:59:02.729-07:002011-03-24T14:59:02.729-07:00Thanks fellas. The Fredericus Rex flowers I bought from a bloke called Brian in Victoria wargameminiatures@y7mail.com. They come as a mix of red, yellow, white and purple. There is Noch 'Cow Pasture' grass mix (which I like as it has 'bits' in it), MiniNatur tufts from 2 packs and some Fredericus Rex tufts as well. Dirt colour is a cheap artists acrylic you can get from any arts shop or stationery shop. Highlighted with GW bleached bone. If my Foundry order comes in today I'll be in good shape to finish a unit of French Hussars as well.
Cheers, MickMickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04362571012296621423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8178186141030048598.post-10140136537150862392011-03-24T13:44:37.457-07:002011-03-24T13:44:37.457-07:00Wow!
